Dr. Rehberger received his Ph.D. from the University of Utah in
1992. He is Assistant Professor of American Thought and Language
at Michigan State University. His research interests include American
studies methods, nationalism, Civil War, American studies/literature
1800-1950. He is Associate Director of Matrix. Mr. Rehberger's recent
publications include: Living Texts on the Web: A Return to the Rhetorical
Arts of Annotation and Commonplace, Weaving the Virtual Web,
NCTE 1999, and Introduction to the Civil War Novel Cudjo's Cave
(1863), U of Alabama P, 2000.

Scott Pennington

Scott Pennington is a web and educational specialist at MATRIX.
He has taught Internet design and research at Michigan State University
and has designed sites for MSU faculty and departments, several
state organizations and numerous commercial sites. He specializes
in faculty training, instructional technologies and online educational
resources. He is currently working on the National Gallery of the
Spoken Word and is project leader for Africa Online, a resource
of primary documents, course materials, and educational development
tools for K-12 educators (Civics, Social Studies, and History).

Bartek Plichta

Bartek Plichta is a Ph.D. candidate in Linguistics at MSU. He has
taught and done research in sociolinguistics, syntax, and applied
phonetics. His current areas of interest include morphosyntactic
and phonological variation in African American English and American
Polish. He has designed a web site for the USIS Civic Education
Project, "Civitas: Internet Civic Education for Poland."

Joe Cords

Joe has worked for Matrix/H-Net since July of 1999. Joe’s duties
include providing clerical support for the office, managing high
volumes of e-mail correspondence and database entry, greeting visitors
and providing assistance, scheduling appointments, supervising student
employees, ordering office supplies, as well as other inter-office
duties. Previously, Joe was in the Supply and Fiscal Division of
the U.S. Navy, where he was stationed in Okinawa Japan. He lived
in San Diego for the last 8 years before becoming part of our team.

Jacque Shoppel

Jacque is an Administrative Assistant at MATRIX. She has worked
at Michigan State University since 1984. Jacque joined Matrix/H-Net
in March, 1996. Jacque is responsible for the accounting records
for MATRIX, including budget forecasting, account reconciliation,
grant reporting, and serving as liaison with MSU’s accounting and
contracts & grants departments, and various federal granting agencies
including NSF, NEH, USIA, USIS.
